In Islam, charity is a fundamental aspect of the faith, emphasizing the importance of helping others and promoting social justice. Charity, or "Sadaqah" in Arabic, is a broad concept that includes any act of giving or kindness. There are several types of charity in Islam, with the two most prominent being Zakat and Sadaqah.
Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is obligatory for all Muslims who meet certain criteria. It requires Muslims to give a fixed portion (typically 2.5%) of their accumulated wealth to those in need.
Zakat is meant to purify one's wealth, prevent hoarding, and reduce inequality by redistributing wealth to the poor and needy.
Sadaqah refers to voluntary charity given out of kindness and goodwill. Unlike Zakat, it is not obligatory and can be given at any time in any amount.
Sadaqah can be monetary or non-monetary, such as helping someone in need, smiling at someone, or any good deed.
